MahJongg Alchemy reimagines the classic tile-matching mahjong game as an adventure in the mysterious world of the ancient alchemists. Clear away the tiles by combining the right alchemical symbols, dragons, heavenly bodies, and esoteric alchemical equipment.

How do you play MahJongg Alchemy?
In this thinking game, the aim is to find and combine the matching tiles. You can select only the tiles that are not covered by any other tiles. The tiles must also be free on one or both long sides. Remove the tiles by making combinations and reveal the pieces hidden below.

You have 15:00 minutes to finish as many layouts as possible. The timer is shown at the top of each level. If you run out of moves, the game will end and a new tile set will be shuffled and dealt. You can also use the button at the top to end a level by dealing a new tile set. The timer will keep running, however!

What is Alchemy?

Alchemy is an ancient form of natural philosophy. While alchemy was important to the development of modern sciences such as chemistry and medicine, it also involved a lot of mysticism and spirituality.

The alchemists wanted to find ways to purify certain materials. Their most famous goal was to transform base metals like lead and tin into precious metals such as gold and silver. Another important goal for alchemists was to discover an elixir that could cure all diseases and give the alchemist immortality and eternal youth. Some believed that there was a perfect substance that could do all of these things. They called this ‘The Philosopher’s Stone’.

What do the symbols mean?

The tiles feature pictograms symbolizing elements, compounds, equipment and processes commonly used in alchemy. The suns and moons, for instance, stand for gold and silver respectively. The circle with a dot in the middle also stands for both sun and gold. See if you can find the planetary metals mercury, iron and copper, or substances like nickel, phosphorus and bismuth.

The alchemists also used various tools for distilling substances. On some tiles, you can see retorts and alembics. A retort is a rounded vessel with a long neck or spout that points downwards. An alembic (or ambix) is an installation made of two or more vessels connected with tubes, and is used to heat and distill substances.
